Canal is a reflection on being born, acknowledging generational traumas, and the choice for compassion. It was created on the artist’s birthday with gratitude and acknowledgement for her maternal lineage.
Canal offered those who visited her a reprieve from the outside world- comfort found in the muffled sounds as light filters through flesh colored fabrics. Peer into the portal and contemplate who else, perhaps, deserves some compassion?
This site-specific immersive installation was sewn into being using fibers, textiles, soft sculpture, and family heirlooms. It was displayed in River Arts District, Asheville, February-March of 2026.
